PM Narendra Modi Pays Tribute To Zubeen Garg In Mann Ki Baat, Calls Him 'Kohinoor'

Zubeen Garg's shocking demise left the entire country in deep sorrow. Especially, the Assam government announced 3-day mourning after the tragic demise of the Assamese singer in Singapore. He was 52 and died due to drowning while doing scuba diving on September 19. Zubeen’s funeral was attended by thousands of people in Guwahati and days after his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the singer on Mann Ki Baat, leaving fans emotional.

PM Modi Pay Tribute To Zubeen Garg

On Bhupen Hazarika's birth anniversary, PM Modi, on Mann Ki Baat, paid tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg. Taking to X from his official handle, PM penned, "Zubeen Garg was a shining gem of Assam's cultural heritage. He will always live in the hearts of the people!" sharing a video of people attending Mann Ki Baat in Assam.In the clip, paying respect to the Ya Ali singer, PM said, "Assam is celebrating Bhupen Hazarika's birthday today, but a few days ago, a sad incident took place. People are mourning the death of Zubeen Garg, he was a famous singer, who made his mark all over the country. Zubeen Garg was deeply attached to the culture of Assam and will always be in our memories. His music will keep liberating future generations."

Further, he added in Assamese, "Zubeen was the Kohinoor, the brightest gem of Assamese culture. Though he is physically gone from our midst, he will remain forever in our hearts."

For the unversed, Zubeen passed away at 52 in Singapore on September 19 in a scuba diving accident. The Assam government has decided to pay tribute to the singer and cultural icon, Zubeen Garg. They will distribute his ashes to organisations and individuals through an online application system. Apart from that, the memorials are also set to be established at Kamarkuchi, where he was cremated with state honour, the singer spent his early years in Kamarkuchi, Jorhat.
