How Did Congress React To Chidambaram's Op Blue Star A 'Mistake' Remark? Watch
Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday called Operation Blue Star a "mistake", claiming that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi ultimately paid the price for it with her
life, as reported by PTI. "No disrespect to any military officers here but that (Blue Star) was a wrong way to retrieve the Golden Temple. Few years later, we showed the right way to retrieve the Golden Temple by keeping out the Army…" said Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram, as quoted by PTI. "Blue Star was the wrong way and I agree that Mrs Gandhi paid with her life for that mistake. But that mistake was a cumulative decision of the Army, the police, the intelligence and the civil service. You cannot blame it only on Mrs Gandhi. Would you?" he added.
Chidambaram reportedly made the remarks while moderating a discussion on 'They Will Shoot You, Madam', a book by journalist Harinder Baweja, at the Khushwant Singh Literature Festival in Himachal Pradesh's Kasauli. Operation Bluestar was an Army operation which was carried out in June 1984 to flush out armed terrorists from the Golden Temple.Meanwhile, the Congress high command is "upset" with Chidambaram's recent remarks, exclusively placed sources told Times Now. "The Congress high command is upset with Chidambaram's recent statement. From the top leadership to the common workers are unhappy. Senior leaders to whom Congress has given everything should make statements carefully. It is not right to repeatedly make such statements which bring embarrassment to the party," sources told Times Now. Reacting to the comments, BJP IT Department chief Amit Malviya said Chidambaram was “speaking the truth.” “Will the Congress now act against Chidambaram for exposing their false narrative?” he asked on X."The Congress never misses a chance to claim that Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were “martyrs.” But senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has now busted that myth — calling Operation Blue Star a mistake for which Indira Gandhi paid with her life. By the same logic, Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination too was a consequence of his disastrous handling of the situation in India’s neighbourhood," the BJP leader posted on X.
