torrential rains wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, leaving at least 18 people dead and several missing. In Uttarakhand, cloudbursts killed 15 people, stranded over 900, and inundated the Tapkeshwar temple after the Tamsa river overflowed. Dehradun was worst hit, with eight from Uttar Pradesh swept away in the Tons River. In Himachal, three members of a family died in a landslide in Mandi, while flash floods submerged a bus stand and damaged shops. With 655 roads blocked and crores in losses, both states face a grim toll this monsoon, which has already claimed over 417 lives.
Uttarakhand Rain: Dehradun Worst Affected
-Fresh cloudbursts and torrential rains left 15 people dead and 16 missing, while more than 900 people were stranded across the state.-Thirteen deaths were reported in Dehradun, including eight from Uttar Pradesh who drowned when their tractor-trolley was swept away in the Tons River.-Several bridges collapsed and key roads were breached in Dehradun district, cutting off access to many areas.-The Tamsa river overflowed, flooding the Tapkeshwar temple and submerging its giant Hanuman statue up to the shoulders, a level not seen in decades.-SDRF and NDRF teams rescued 400–500 students trapped at Devbhoomi Institute and helped hundreds of stranded people wade through flooded rivers.
