As per studies, IUDs are supposedly ‘over 99 per cent effective’ at preventing pregnancy. In other words, a baby born even after the use of such devices should fall under the 0.08 per cent category. Sounds
like something that can hardly ever happen, correct? Well- wrong! This Brazilian baby- Matheus Gabriel- ended up proving how it IS possible to fall under this very small percentage. Believe it or not, the newborn left everyone shocked after being born with a contraceptive IUD in hand! A video of the doctors who delivered the little miracle was shared online, which showed a copper intrauterine device in the baby’s hand. As per The Sun, the young one was delivered in Brazil’s Neropolis at the Hospital Sagrado Coracao de Jesus. The doctor, Dr Natalia Rodrigues, who performed on the baby’s mother, had shared the clip, which went viral. Reportedly, the doctor had jokingly placed the device on the baby’s hand before recording the said clip and sharing it. Rodrigues was also quick to remind the internet how such contraceptive methods are not always ‘100 per cent effective’-making Gabriel’s birth a prime example. “When we least expected it, during an IUD follow-up, during the ultrasound to check on the condition, I found out I was pregnant. The reaction was desperate,” the doctor was quoted as saying as per The Sun.
