About Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth, also known as Karak Chaturthi, is a revered Hindu festival that symbolises love, devotion, and marital harmony. Observed predominantly by married women across North India, the festival falls on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Kartik. On this day, women observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for the long life, happiness, and prosperity of their husbands. The rituals begin with sargi—a pre-dawn meal lovingly prepared by mothers-in-law—followed by a day of devotion, during which women abstain from food and water. Dressed in traditional attire, they gather in the evening to perform puja, recite the legends of Veeravati, Karwa, and Savitri, and conclude the fast upon sighting the moon, when husbands symbolically offer them the first sip of water or morsel of food.
