back at one of Mahesh Bhatt’s most heartfelt revelations, the veteran filmmaker once opened up about the contrasting personalities of his daughter Alia Bhatt and her husband Ranbir Kapoor. Known for speaking his mind, Bhatt candidly reflected on how Alia carved her own path in cinema and how Ranbir views her extraordinary drive.

In a conversation on The Himanshu Mehta Show, the Saaransh (1984) director admitted that Alia’s journey surprised even him. He recalled how she didn’t rely on family connections but instead proved herself through sheer determination. “I didn’t launch Alia Bhatt. Karan Johar launched her. I didn’t know she had so much thirst for acting in her. She gave the audition herself. I just got to know they loved her work. I was shocked because I hadn’t seen any such traits in her, even remotely. I’m very happy she’s a self-made girl,” he shared.Bhatt also spoke about how Ranbir Kapoor perceives Alia’s relentless ambition. Sharing his son-in-law’s words, he revealed, “He (Ranbir) says, ‘Alia is made of different stuff.’ When I ask him, ‘What do you mean?,’ he says, ‘Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!’ While he’s a person who’s very laid-back and comforted, and he just wants to do enough. She’s a go-getter.”

Ranbir and Alia’s love story blossomed after a brief dating, culminating in an intimate wedding in 2022 attended by close friends and family. Later that year, the couple welcomed their daughter, Raha, in November.The two also shared screen space in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) and are set to reunite in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated Love And War (2026), alongside Vicky Kaushal.
