Let us tell you, Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor received a lot of appreciation at the global film festivals. However, the film couldn’t perform well at the box office in India. On the Game Changers podcast, Karan had said, “I made Homebound, worldwide critically acclaimed, but I can’t say if I’ll take such decisions in the future or not. I will feel upset, but I chose this deal (with Adar Poonawalla) for a reason – growth. Growth comes from profit, and profit comes from profitability. I will always be artistic, but it is important to be commercial as well." His statement didn’t go down well with many people. Hence, Karan Johar started receiving hatred on social media. We are actively working towards making our film get a large audience and presence on a global stage and are thrilled with the day on day increase in domestic footfalls as well…" (sic)

Talking about Homebound, the film received a 9-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of two friends who want to become police officers to earn respect in society. It is a heartwarming tale of friendship, love, societal issues and casteism.
