it was more about the energy and people behind the film than timing.

“Baat ye hai ki in logon ne to poori film pakayi and I think aadhi se upar ho chuki thi jab hamari mulaqat hui. Ji, to jaise na jo brahmand mein jo pyaar panap raha tha, to wo bas bula raha tha main aao” (The thing is, they had already shot most of the film when we met. It felt like the love growing in the universe was calling me to come), he shared with a smile. The actor recalled meeting Deepti Naval, which made him feel instantly connected. “To phir baatcheet hui, pata chala ki Amol sir (Amol Palekar), Deepti ji. To phir humne kaha theek hai bhai, acchi baat hai. Ek acche satsang mein hum log ikatthe ho rahe hain aur pyaar ki ek nayi paribhasha jaan rahe hain” (Then we spoke, I got to know it was Amol sir and Deepti ji. I said okay, good thing. We are gathering in a satsang-like vibe and discovering a new definition of love). He added, “Chaahe bahut der ho gayi humare liye, lekin phir bhi ek naya pyaar kabhi bhi ho sakta hai. Wo kabhi bhi ho sakta hai” (Even if it’s too late for us, new love can still happen at any time). He also praised the craft of the film, saying, “Jaise Amol ji aur Deepti ji ne jo cinema ka ek craft banaya, to apne aap hi lagta hai dil mein ki matlab aisi galti to ye karenge nahi. Haan ye log hain matlab, hai to bhai, pata hai. Kuch dekha hoga, kuch naya suna hoga, samjha hoga. Humne bhi kaha okay” (The way Amol ji and Deepti ji created this craft of cinema, of course, it feels they wouldn’t make such mistakes. They know their work. They must have seen, heard, and understood something new. So I also said okay).Known for his subtle comic timing, Kala admits his humour comes from simplicity. “Ek aasaani se bol dena, you know, kya hai ki wo sabki apni-apni bhavnaayein hoti hain. Apne aap ek usko aap style maan lete ho. Usko aap ek ada maan lete ho. Ek andaaz maante ho to definitely style hai” (Speaking simply – everyone has their own feelings. It automatically becomes a style, a manner, a way of expression – and yes, that’s definitely a style), he explained. He tries not to complicate his performance. “Mere ko bhi aadat bani hui hai ki matlab main zyada jaal na banun, ekdum seedhe-seedhe tareeke se koshish karun ki matlab kaise-kaise kya ho sakta hai” (I have also made it a habit not to complicate things, but to keep them simple and direct in whatever I do), he said. Even in
Tara & Akash, he hopes the audience notices the small touches. The actor added, “Film mein bhi hai to film mein bhi batate hain ki jo kuch bhi maine kiya hai to thoda sa ek muskurahat agar de do aap kisi tareeke se na to acchi baat hai” (Even in films, I always feel that if my work can bring even a little smile in some way, then that’s a good thing). For him, the film’s subject was also refreshing. “ Woh cinema jo abhi dekha nahi hai, inhone dikha diya baith ke” (This is the kind of cinema we haven’t seen yet, and they have shown it), he said.

Reflecting on his long journey in films, Kala admitted he no longer worries about chasing opportunities. “Matlab ab koi aapko banayega to nahi. Ab jo bhi banna tha wo ban gaya hai” (Nobody will make you into something anymore. Whatever I had to become, I have already become), he says candidly.Today, he makes choices with ease. “Agar aapke paas time hai, date hai ya aap conviction hai ki matlab ye character is tarah ka hai to aap bol doge, theek hai bhai main kar lunga.” (If you have the time, dates, and conviction about a character, you will agree to do it.), he said. For Kala, cinema is a collaborative effort, and he never takes credit away from the team. “Ab meri wajah se cinema chalega, meri wajah se nahi chalega to hoga nahi. Bilkul hai na? Main ek support pillar hoon, jis tareeke se aap tarif hogi to meri bhi ho jaayegi. Aur agar picture ko koi disconnect karega to meri baat nahi hogi. Ye to pakki baat hai. I love the audience” (Cinema will not run or stop because of me alone. I am just a support pillar – if the film is praised, I will also be praised, and if the film is rejected, I won’t be talked about. That’s for sure. I love the audience).Did you like our chat with Brijendra Kala? Let us know by tweeting at @TimesNow!
