Bollywood
veteran Ameesha Patel has warmly praised the debut performances of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in the romantic drama Saiyaara, while also pushing back against comparisons with her own debut, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. Ameesha Patel congratulates Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda for Saiyaara
In a chat with us, when asked about her thoughts on Ahaan and Aneet's successful debut, Ameesha celebrated the energy and talent of the new generation. She responded, "I think that first of all both of them did a tremendous job, and my congratulations to them. It was high time, this industry needs a few fresh faces and faces that run and people that love it and know how to create new actors it's very necessary." She added, "Saiyaara was a film, honestly, that the Gen Z grabbed more than at all levels, unlike a Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai,
where you're still sitting 25 years down the line and you're discussing, and you know just the tune is enough to give goosebumps. People still do the tag step, the hook step and everything,” she remarked, highlighting how it’s “high time” the industry welcomed fresh faces—actors who “run” for their craft and bring sincerity. She said Saiyaara was a film that Gen Z embraced, noting its resonance and appeal across audiences.
Ameesha Patel against comparisons between Saiyaara and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
A topic that keeps coming up, she acknowledged, is how Saiyaara is being likened to Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. While she expressed pride in her own film’s lasting legacy, she cautioned against making direct comparisons. She said, "Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai is a very happy film. It had humour, had music, had everything, double roles. It was a massy commercial, downright romantic rom-com kind of film. It was not tragic in any way. So you can't compare apples and oranges. I'm just glad that Gen Z, so-called this new term, got a set of actors for them that they can relate to, and a film that they could grab onto." Ameesha says 'Young actors should be nurtured'
The actress believes young actors should be nurtured now because these new faces are tomorrow’s stars. She added, "I really hope makers do give newcomers, capable newcomers, you know, a lot more opportunities. I believe that we can make good films even with completely raw people. It's great. Like, I hope we see a lot more of this. Because honestly, like I said, six, seven years from today, when these superstars are retired or semi-retired, who's going to take Bollywood ahead? Who are we going to go to the theatres for? So we'd better create the young actors today for our entertainment tomorrow, otherwise these 2000 screens, 3000 screens are just going to be shut, and they're going to become malls and restaurants."
