Idli Kadai: Dhanush Opens Up Over Criticism About His Viral 'Idli Story'

the trailer launch of the film Idli Kadai, Dhanush spoke about his tough childhood and the hardships involving their family buying idlis. Soon the video went viral and he was criticised on social media with posts stating that the story was a 'promotion strategy' for the film. People said that he is the son of a film director he would not have been in such a 'bad financial situation'. Now, the actor has addressed the issue.

Talking at the event, Dhanush said he was born in 1983, and his father Kasturi Raja became a filmmaker in 1991. It wasn't until 1995 that their family could get a good lifestyle. "Even after he became a filmmaker in 1991, it was not smooth sailing as he had four children and educating us was the priority over any other needs. So it was only around 1995 that we managed to get a good lifestyle."

What Did Dhanush Say In Viral Idli Kadai Video?

At the audio launch, Dhanush spoke about his family's financial situation during his growing up years. He said "As a kid, I always craved idlis every single day, but I couldn’t afford them. Hence, we started collecting flowers from the neighbourhood. The money we get will be based on the amount of flowers we collect every day. My sister, cousins and I would wake up at 4 AM to do this for over two hours." He further said "We’d get a little over Rs 2 each for the jobs. Then, we’d head to a local pump set, take bath and walk with just a towel on the main road. For that money, we would get four to five idlis. Nothing can beat the satisfaction and taste that is gotten out of eating food from our own hard-earned money. I’m not getting the happiness and taste now in restaurants, which I had during my childhood,” added Dhanush.

Idli Kadai is Dhanush's fourth directorial after Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, stars his Thiruchitrambalam co-star Nithya Menen. The cast also features Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Geetha Kailasam, Samuthirakani, Parthiban, and Shalini Pandey.Dhanush's home banner, Wunderbar Studios, is producing the drama along with Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures. Dhanush's frequent collaborator, GV Prakash, who teamed up with him in Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, is the music composer for the film. The film's cinematography is managed by Kiran Koushik, with editing by Prasanna GK.Idli Kadai is releasing in theatres on October 1.
