Shetty's Kannada film Kantara became the little film that could during 2022. It became one of the highest-grossing Kannada films of all time and won two National Film Awards. Now, a prequel film titled Kantara: Chapter 1 will premiere on Gandhi Jayanti and Dusshera and everyone is keen to see if the first film will surpass Kantara. The filmmaker also shared however different each state might be, all cultures are connected to their roots.

In an interview with Zoom, Rishab revealed, "There's a well shown in the trailer. It's all in Kantara; the well contains a circle, and there are lots of stories within that Kantara well. How many are in there? Even I can't say. This time, Kantara: Chapter 1 has come out that well."

The actor and filmmaker went to share examples of how the Kannada film about nature versus humans has managed to connect with audiences around the world in different languages. He explained, "India has one beautiful thing that we are so connected with our roots. Our culture, belief system, and lifestyles at the core are the same; only the methods are different. Like the Marathas are different, Kannada [people] are different, the Northeast can be different, Tamil, Telugu, Mayali... everyone's style is like a different perspective." Once again directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. Produced by Hombale Films, the Kannada film is set to explore the ancient roots of the Bhuta Kola ritual introduced in the first film. This time, Rishab Shetty plays the role of a Naga Sadhu with superhuman powers.
