Gor, who arrived in New Delhi on Friday, met PM Modi on Saturday and discussed an array of bilateral issues, including defence, trade and technology. Why Sergio Gor's visit is significant

Accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, Sergio Gor is on a six-day visit to New Delhi, days after the Senate confirmed his appointment as the US envoy to India. A loyal member of Trump's inner circle, he was nominated as the next American envoy to India in August. The US Senate confirmed the appointment this week.Gor's visit comes at a time when ties between New Delhi and Washington have been reeling under stress after Trump doubled tariffs on Indian goods to a whopping 50 per cent, including 25 per cent additional duties for India's purchase of Russian crude oil.
