Zubeen Garg’s Wife Questions Negligence in Singer’s Death: 'What And Why It Happened'

The wife of the late singer Zubeen Garg has demanded answers from those who were with him, stating that the family wants clarity on what happened during his final moments. Garima Saikia Garg said that she wants to know what happened to him and how negligence could be allowed to happen. “We want to know what happened to him, why it happened and how this negligence could be allowed to happen? We want answers,” Zubeen's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, said Monday, according to a PTI report.The Assamese singer died on September 19 in a swimming incident in Singapore on September 19. He was in the city to attend the North East India Festival. His mortal remains were flown back to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati, where fan paid their last respects.

Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours in Kamarkuchi village, about 20 km from Guwahati. Following the 11th-day rituals for the singer, his wife stated that everyone who was on the yacht with him and at the Singapore event he attended “must answer” her questions.Garima stated that, based on the video of the singer’s final moments, it was clear he was “extremely exhausted,” and emphasised that she wants a thorough investigation.She also remarked that those on the yacht could have easily pulled him out of the water. “Why did they not lift him from the water when they knew he was not in a condition to swim? They could have done so, as it was very easy to distract him,” Garima quoted PTI. She further said that Zubeen's manager, Siddartha Sharma, was well aware that the singer could not go anywhere near fire or water as it could trigger his epileptic seizure. She claimed that Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organiser of the North East India Festival and a friend of Zubeen, “did nothing” for the late singer. While stating she had no personal grievance against Mahanta, Garima emphasised that he had a “responsibility,” questioning why there was no medical support, security or special arrangements in place for Zubeen.Garima further said that the medicine for epileptic seizures had been sent along with Zubeen when he had travelled to Singapore. "He has been taking only one medicine since August 2024 after he had a seizure attack," she said. She also mentioned that Zubeen had not mentioned any plans regarding a yacht trip to her a day before the incident. "He is usually very excited about these things and I am surprised that he did not talk about it," she said.
