Zubeen Garg Forcefully Taken For Swimming, Alleges Wife Garima: Why Was My Husband Treated Like This?

Garg’s death at the age of 52 shook the nation, and his hometown in Assam went into mourning until his funeral on September 23. He was supposed to perform at the North East India Festival in Singapore on September 20. However, during a yacht party on September 19, he went swimming, and the post-mortem report stated that it was a case of accidental drowning. But, Zubeen’s wife believes he was taken for swimming ‘forcefully’. In a recent interview with a media portal, Garima Saikia Garg, alleged negligence.

Talking to India Today, Garima said, “From the videos circulating on social media, it is very clear he was extremely exhausted that day. Everyone knew he had a medical condition, he suffered seizures. Doctors had told him not to go near water or fire. He was never allowed to drive either. Still, he was taken to a yacht party, into the water, and allowed to swim without a life jacket. Why was there no medical assistance or security support? He was not only my husband, he was Assam’s heartbeat, the heartthrob of North East India. Such negligence is unforgivable.”

Final conversation

Recalling the last conversation with Zubeen, Garima revealed, “Had he known, he would have excitedly told me. He was singing at a musical evening the previous night. The next morning he was suddenly taken to the water. He didn’t even change his clothes. I believe he was taken forcefully.”Expressing suspicion over Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sarma, Garima shared, “Siddharth was crying, saying ‘dada, dada’. I heard the word CPR. I was shocked because he never had a heart problem. Even during seizure attacks, he always came back after a few minutes. Why was CPR being given? Why did it take nearly an hour to get him to hospital? Was he brought in already lifeless? I still don’t know the truth.”While the Assam police and CID investigate the case, Garima hoped, “The government and the Chief Minister are taking this case seriously. I have faith in the legal system. I have asked for a faster investigation. The truth will come out soon.”

Arrests till now

After Siddharth and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the police arrested Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.
