Union Commerce and Trade Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday emphasised that India is not rushing into any trade agreements, particularly regarding discussions with the United States. His remarks came at the Berlin Global Dialogue in Berlin, Germany, during an official visit. "We are talking to the US, but we do not do deals in a hurry and we do not do deals with deadlines or with a gun to our head," Piyush Goyal said. As per Goyal, India is also looking at newer markets to deal with the high US tariffs and is in talks with the European Union (EU) for a free trade agreement. "India looks long term, India never takes decisions in a rush or on the pressure of the moment. And we've accepted if there's a tariff on us, there is a tariff on us. We're
looking how to overcome that — we're looking at newer markets, we're looking at a stronger demand impetus within the Indian economy. So we have a very resilient structure," he added.

'Talks on in a cordial atmosphere': Goyal
Earlier, Goyal had said that talks between India and the United States on a proposed bilateral trade agreement are progressing in a cordial atmosphere and New Delhi will protect the interests of farmers, fishermen and MSME sectors."I believe the talks are progressing in a very cordial atmosphere and I have said many times that free trade agreements or trade talks are never based on deadlines. The talks are progressing very well. The talks are ongoing and we will definitely inform you when we reach a decision," Goyal told reporters.Trade ties between New Delhi and Washington have been reeling under stress after the Donald Trump administration imposed a steep 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods. This includes a 25 per cent additional import duty for buying Russian crude oil. India has described these duties as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable".(With agency inputs)
