Anya Singh on creating modern characters
In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Anya revealed whether it is a calculated decision to choose characters that Gen-Z associates with. The actress clarified, “I like to challenge myself as a performer. I like to create characters. I enjoy the process of creating a human and getting to create a psyche while performing. That, to me, is what intrigues me the most when I read something or want to be a part of something. A lot of times, it's just to work with a certain director or desire to be a part of a world. That's what happened with Stree 2 and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.”

Anya recalls playing Lala in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan
Anya spoke about playing Lala, a content creator in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. She added, “Lala was my most challenging character. It might seem like it is easy because content creators are everywhere today. But she was very far from me. I used to get scared sometimes going on that set because I was not sure whether I could do it, but the fun was in that for me.”
Adapting to Gen-Z lingo
Speaking of adapting to the Gen-Z lingo to play characters like Lala and Chitti (Stree 2), Anya explained, “To play such characters, I have to learn their language because I don't talk in that manner (laughs). But yes, you interact a lot with people who are closer to Lala or Chitti because social media is prevalent and big today. But again, we’re interacting with the person that they're putting out. We don't know who they are personally. We only know the image that they've created. It's easy for me to take that as a reference point, but then where they're coming in and all of that, I feel it doesn't matter what generation you come from.”Anya’s latest show,
The Ba***ds Of Bollywood, is streaming on Netflix.
