A heated exchange between a cab driver and a passenger has gone viral on Reddit, sparking a discussion about how app-based drivers are paid and treated. The incident reportedly took place in Gurugram, where a traveller tried to book a cab to Delhi through a cab-hailing app. While the driver initially accepted the ride, he later sent a demeaning and rude message to the passenger after seeing that the fare for the trip was just Rs 235 — a price that seemingly angered him.In a screenshot shared on Reddit, the customer showed their brief chat with the driver. It began with an automated message from the driver saying, “I am on the way,” to which the traveller replied, “OK.” Moments later, the tone changed completely when the driver sent an offensive
message:“Android ke app par hi beth ke chala ja 235 rupaye mein garib (Sit on that Android app and go on your own in Rs 235, you poor fellow).”Later, the Reddit user wrote, “I immediately cancelled the ride and booked a cab via Rapido instead of InDrive. Best decision — move on from unnecessary scuffles and discussions; your peace of mind is more important.”
The post quickly spread across social media, with users sharing similar unpleasant experiences with cab drivers on ride-hailing platforms. One user commented, “I’ve had the same thing happen to me. Booked a cab from Sec 44, Gurgaon to Dwarka 21 Metro for Rs 299. Dude came and picked me up, and then started to cry about how low the fare is and cancelled the cab at Huda City Metro. Then I took a metro home (free ride to the metro station).”Another added, “It should not at all matter to them how much you’re paying as a customer. In fact, the price should be hidden — it’s between them and the platform.”The viral post has reignited conversations online about the challenges faced by both drivers and passengers on app-based ride platforms.
