From the new teaser that was unveiled last week at New York Comic Con, HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is shaping up to be a different kind of Game of Thrones spinoff. Based on George RR Martin's
Dunk and Egg novellas, the show will be mainly focused on two characters and is almost like a road journey with them. While a large part is focused on Peter Claffey's Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk, he shares the screen with young star Dexter Sol Ansell's Egg. Find out more about the bald-headed squire, who is hiding his identity for a reason. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
Who is Egg?
If you've not read The Hedge Knight novella, a little boy's involvement in the series will be a mystery. Egg ends up being Dunk's squire and accompanying him on his travels. But Egg is his nickname. He is a prince in disguise; his real name is Aegon V Targaryen. That's how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms connects to both Game of Thrones and its prequel, House of the Dragon.

In fact, at the New York Comic Con, Martin himself told young Ansell at a panel, "You're not smallfolk. You'll always be a Targaryen, and you have royal blood in you." So far the series is hiding a spoiler in plain sight. In the HBO Max series, Egg was supposed to squire for his brother Daeron during the Ashford tourney. But Daeron gets drunk and shaves Egg's head; later the young boy runs away and meets up with Dunk. How is Egg related to Rhaenyra Targaryen and House of the Dragon? The young prince is a descendant of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) through their son Viserys, his son Aegon IV, his son Dearon I, and finally his son Maekar I, who is Egg's father. In the future, after his elder brother Aemon refuses the throne, Aegon becomes the 15th Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne and becomes Aegon the Unlikely.
