What is the story about?

From
the new teaser that was unveiled last week at New York Comic Con, HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is shaping up to be a different kind of Game of Thrones spinoff. Based on George RR Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, the show will be mainly focused on two characters and is almost like a road journey with them. While a large part is focused on Peter Claffey's Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk, he shares the screen with young star Dexter Sol Ansell's Egg. Find out more about the bald-headed squire, who is hiding his identity for a reason. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
Who is Egg?
If you've not read The Hedge Knight novella, a little boy's involvement in the series will be a mystery. Egg ends up being Dunk's squire and accompanying him on his travels. But Egg is his nickname. He is a prince in disguise; his real name is Aegon V Targaryen. That's how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms connects to both Game of Thrones and its prequel, House of the Dragon.

In fact, at the New York Comic Con, Martin himself told young Ansell at a panel, "You're not smallfolk. You'll always be a Targaryen, and you have royal blood in you." So far the series is hiding a spoiler in plain sight. In the HBO Max series, Egg was supposed to squire for his brother Daeron during the Ashford tourney. But Daeron gets drunk and shaves Egg's head; later the young boy runs away and meets up with Dunk. How is Egg related to Rhaenyra Targaryen and House of the Dragon? The young prince is a descendant of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) through their son Viserys, his son Aegon IV, his son Dearon I, and finally his son Maekar I, who is Egg's father. In the future, after his elder brother Aemon refuses the throne, Aegon becomes the 15th Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne and becomes Aegon the Unlikely.
How is Egg related to Daenerys Targaryen and Game of Thrones?
Aegon's second son, King Jaehaerys, has one son, King Aerys, who goes on to sire seven children, including Prince Rhaegar and Queen Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). Game of Thrones fans will remember Rhaegar as Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) biological father. There is no reference of Dunk and Egg in House of the Dragon, as it takes place before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, Egg, aka Aegon V's brother Aemon (Peter Vaughan), was part of the HBO series as the last of the Targaryens in Westeros. He is the great uncle to Daenerys and Jon Snow and serves as the maester at Castle Black for the Night's Watch. Aemon is the one who nicknames Aegon, and when he dies, he remembers his brother and cries out, "Egg, I dreamed that I was old." A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms also stars Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, and Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen. It will premiere on HBO Max on January 18 and JioHotstar on January 19.Do you find this article useful?
