Choi Hyun-Wook Apologises For Almost INJURING Child And Not Saying Sorry During First Pitch; Mother Reacts - 'Video Is Chilling'
Choi Hyun-Wook has rendered an apology for almost injuring a child fan unintentionally. The actor who's appeared in K-dramas like Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Weak Hero Class 1, Twinkling Watermelon, My Dearest
Nemesis and Mantis, recently threw his first pitch, hogged controversy for doing it "without consideration" toward a young fan who was the ceremonial batter.
Choi's missed first pitch and the incident
The incident happened on October 9 during the KBO League playoffs between SSG Landers and Samsung Lions at the SSG Landers Field in Incheon. Choi was there to throw the first pitch in the first game. Dressed in his sports wear with sunglasses, he threw a powerful pitch. But the ball missed the catcher's mitt. Although he was visibly startled, he came and greeted the catcher and left the field.
'Insensitive' action of Choi
Though all seemed fine, until fans later saw a video where Choi threw a fastball toward a young fan who participated in the ceremonial batting. Many criticised the 23-year-old after his ball narrowly missed the child's head. Though a major mishap was avoided, many started blaming Choi for his insensitivity in not apologising to the young fan. They noticed that Choi walked towards the catcher, and instead of apologising to the child who was batting, he only exchanged greetings with the catcher and left the field.
Choi's apology
Choi, who's a former baseball player too, issued a public apology on October 10 amid growing criticism. He wrote on the fan communication platform bubble, "I was really nervous during yesterday’s first pitch, so I lost control of the ball. I will reach out to the young batter and their parents today or tomorrow to apologize. I must have been excited to attend a baseball game in person after such a long time. I should have thrown the ball slowly and from a closer distance since a young child was standing there, but I was too nervous to think of that. I am truly sorry."
Mother of child reacts
The child's mother also reacted with a comment on a post featuring the video of Choi's pitch. She wrote, "I’m the mother of the child who batted that day. We trusted it would proceed safely, but seeing it now, it’s chilling."Choi Hyun-Wook, who'll next be seen in Netflix series Notes from the Last Row, is known to be a long-time SSG fan.
