Navi Mumbai International Airport to open on October 8, confirms Gautam Adani

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to be inaugurated on 8 October, according to Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, who made the announcement on 1 October. The airport recently received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the country's aviation safety authority.

The development of the worldclass airport has been carried out in multiple phases by the Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd, a joint venture in which Adani Group holds a 74% stake, while the remaining 26% is owned by CIDCO, the Maharashtra government's land development agency.

"Ahead of the inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport on 8 Oct, I met with our differently-abled colleagues, construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, fire fighters and the guards who helped bring this vision to life," Adani said in a post on X on Wednesday.

"I felt the pulse of a living wonder - a monument shaped by thousands of hands and hearts. When millions of flights take to the skies and billions walk through these halls, the spirit of these people will echo through every takeoff and every step - and to them, I offer my deepest gratitude," he added.

He shared a video from his visit to the site, highlighting his interactions with various personnel involved in the project.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport will be the second major airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and has been designated the code 'NMI'. The project is planned to be executed in five phases.

Once fully operational, the airport is expected to handle up to 90 million passengers annually and manage 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo, positioning it as one of Asia’s largest aviation centres.

As per the most recent data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India currently has 162 operational airports.
