What is the story about?
Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap has once again reignited his long-standing feud with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Thikana, Kashyap, who made his directorial debut with Dabangg, called the actor a ‘criminal’ and questioned his credibility to portray a soldier in the upcoming film, Battle of Galwan.
The controversy originates from Kashyap's long-standing allegations that the actor hijacked Dabangg and created a toxic work atmosphere, prompting the filmmaker to withdraw from the sequel. Kashyap's recent remarks came after Salman made a veiled reference to the director on the reality show Bigg Boss.
In a promo for an interview posted on social media, Kashyap addressed the Bollywood star directly, reviving their long-standing public feud. The video clip began with him singing the Tere Naam title song for Salman before taking a sharp turn into a string of bold statements. Then, he claimed that there’s a “hypothetical situation in which Salman will get (him) shot."
He didn’t hold back and further said that the actor himself hasn’t said much, but it's his fans who seem to be the ones reacting the most. “He is not saying anything while I am criticising him, but his sycophants seem to have a problem with it. This man has destroyed his life to an extent that it is beyond saving now,” he said.
Calling his style ‘chapri’ (tacky), Kashyap publicly questioned the decision to cast Salman in Battle of Galwan, saying, "A criminal like him will play a soldier?" Highlighting the betrayal he felt after giving the big break to Salman, he further mentioned his fallout with the actor.
“He begged me for a film, and I gave him a chance with Dabangg, but he stabbed me in the back. Ye jo in logon ne zeher dala hai na mere andar, ye zeher ki ulti kar raha hu main . (I’m spitting whatever venom they’ve filled me up with),” he said.
In response to Abhinav’s old remarks, Salman earlier addressed the feud during a Bigg Boss 19 episode, without naming Kashyap.
Addressing the situation indirectly, he remarked, “There is one more Dabangg insaan who has taken a dig at Aamir Khan also, along with me… kaam mila kya bhai?"
“The only thing I feel bad about is that you destroyed yourself… If someone gives you advice to think about what you say, then listen to them. I want to see you grow. Talented man, he writes well, but he shouldn’t do this the wrong way," he added.
Salman was last seen in A.R. Murugadoss’s Sikandar alongside Rashmika Mandanna. He is now busy with his hosting duties for Bigg Boss 19 and preparing for his upcoming project, Battle of Galwan. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
