What is the story about?
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday (October 10) announced that the Qatar Emiri Air Force will establish a new training facility at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, strengthening defence ties between the two nations.
"Today we are signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatar Emiri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho. It’s just another example of our partnership," Hegseth told reporters.
The announcement came as Hegseth was joined by Qatari Minister of Defence Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the Pentagon, marking a new phase in the US–Qatar defence relationship.

The facility will host a contingent of Qatari F-15s and pilots, allowing them to train alongside US forces to strengthen joint operations. “The location will host a contingent of Qatari F-15s and pilots to enhance our combined training, increase lethality, interoperability,” Hegseth said.
While the United States does not host any foreign military bases on its soil, several allied forces operate under training arrangements, including the Republic of Singapore Air Force, which already maintains an F-15SG training detachment at the same base in Idaho’s Elmore County.
The Mountain Home Air Force Base serves as a key site for advanced fighter pilot training and international military cooperation. The White House has not yet provided additional details about the arrangement.
