SpiceJet on Monday, October 6, said it would launch daily non-stop flights to Ayodhya from four Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad, ahead of Diwali festival.
SpiceJet's direct
flights to Ayodhya, a holy city in Uttar Pradesh, will start October 8, 2025.
It is also considering launching direct flights from Mumbai for the festive season as well as winter 2025.
The announcement to operate new flights targeting devotees and tourists during the festival season comes as the airline struggles to bolster business operations.
New flight operations will commence in a phased manner, the airlines said.Shares of the company are trading marginally higher post announcement on October 6 at ₹31.70 apiece, which is 1.93% higher than its opening price ₹31.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, “We are delighted to make travel to the holy city easier and more convenient for devotees and tourists alike. Our new daily flights from key metros will ensure smooth and affordable access to Ayodhya during Diwali, allowing passengers to celebrate the festival in its most divine setting.”
An investor presentation in September revealed sharp financial decline.
Total income fell from over ₹2,000 crore in June 2024 to just ₹1,191 crore in June 2025, turning a ₹150 crore profit into a ₹238 crore loss.
Despite raising ₹3,700 crore last September, the airline’s fleet shrank from 28 planes to 21, leaving more than half its aircraft grounded. Earlier promises to unground planes and clear pending dues have largely gone unmet.
It also reported a poor June quarter with revenue from operations declining 34.3% year-on-year to ₹1,120 crore against ₹1,708 crore in Q1FY25. The airline credited the poor performance to geopolitical situation with a neighbouring country and airspace restrictions in key markets.
"This quarter's results reflect the extraordinary challenges faced by the aviation industry, including geopolitical turbulence, restricted air routes, and supply chain disruptions," SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh had said at the time.
