State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) on Tuesday (September 30) said it has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) to establish an Inter-State Transmission System for the “Inter-Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and WR Grid” project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project on September 29, 2025. The project involves the construction of 765 kV D/c transmission lines across Karnataka and Maharashtra, along with the development of associated line bays at both ends.
This week, Power Grid Corporation of India approved two major infrastructure projects worth ₹705.51 crore to strengthen national grid operations and enhance disaster preparedness. The company’s Committee of Directors on Investment in Projects cleared the initiatives during its September 26 meeting.

The first project, valued at ₹209.68 crore, will establish a VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) communication system across all five regional grids--Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and Eastern. This project, slated for commissioning by August 23, 2026, is expected to improve coordination and efficiency in managing India’s power transmission network.
The second project, with a budget of ₹495.83 crore, will procure 20 sets (300 towers) of Emergency Restoration System (ERS) under the Make in India initiative. Scheduled for commissioning by April 19, 2027, this system is designed to swiftly restore transmission lines during natural disasters or infrastructure failures, thereby strengthening India’s resilience in critical power supply.
Shares of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd ended at ₹280.10, down by ₹0.50, or 0.18%, on the BSE.
