Jindal Steel commissions 5 MTPA blast furnace in Odisha, on track for 12 MTPA capacity

Jindal Steel Ltd announced on Friday (September 26) that it has commissioned a 5 MTPA blast furnace at its Angul plant in Odisha, doubling hot metal capacity from 4 MTPA to 9 MTPA and making the site one of the largest single-location steel plants.

The new Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace – II, with a useful volume of 5,499 m³, ranks among the biggest and most advanced globally.

Jindal Steel said the commissioning gives fresh momentum to its long-term growth strategy, positioning Angul as the company’s central hub for expansion.

Future plans include a dedicated port at Paradeep, a slurry pipeline and coal pipe conveyor to strengthen supply chain efficiency, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and new coke oven facilities, the company mentioned in an official release.

Shares of Jindal Steel Ltd ended lower on Friday (September 26) by 1.97% at ₹1,030.95 on the NSE.
