What is the story about?
Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney has reportedly received an offer to make her Bollywood debut. The package is estimated to be worth £35 million (about ₹530 crore) and would place her as the lead in one of India's most ambitious forthcoming movies. Sweeney and other industry observers, as well as fans, were caught off guard by the revelation.
According to India Times, the deal would involve an acting fee of £35 million (approximately ₹415 crore) in addition to an extra £10 million (about ₹115 crore) in sponsorships and other deals.
Sweeney would portray a young American star who develops feelings for an Indian celebrity in the aforementioned role.
The shooting will reportedly commence in 2026, with locations spanning New York, London, Paris, and Dubai among those under consideration.
Sweeney is said to be ‘taken aback’ by the proposal's startling scope. Although she has not yet provided confirmation, sources claimed she is closely considering the idea, assessing its potential impact on her international reputation in addition to its monetary worth.
“Sydney was initially shocked by the offer because 45 million pounds is a huge amount. But the project is intriguing, and it might elevate her global profile even further,” a source said, as per the Hindustan Times.
“The Indian film industry is strong and expanding, and this film is intended to introduce its productions to the global market,” the source added.
Sweeney became famous for her roles in the black comedy The White Lotus, the drama Euphoria, and most recently, The Housemaid. She will soon play US professional boxer Christy Martin, the first female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, in the upcoming movie Christy.
Apart from television, Sweeney has established herself in the film industry. She starred in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 feature Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and has prominent parts in films such as Reality and the romantic comedy Anyone But You. Furthermore, she launched her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, in 2020, demonstrating her drive and foresight behind the lens.
