Central Railway to run 1,126 special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja: Full schedule

To manage the anticipated surge during the upcoming festive season, particularly Navratri, Diwali, and Chhath, the Central Railway has announced over 1,000 special trains. In a press release dated 12 September, Central Railway stated that it will operate 1,126 special trains during the Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festival seasons in 2025 to accommodate the festive travel rush.

These services began in September and will run until December, connecting major hubs such as Mumbai and Pune with destinations primarily in northern and eastern India. According to Central Railway, 182 additional trains will be operated on top of the 944 special trains already announced. These services are intended to provide relief for passengers travelling during the festival period.

The press release stated: “Central Railway will run 1,126 special trains for the Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Festival 2025. A further 182 special trains will be operated in addition to the 944 previously announced. These additional trains aim to ensure passenger convenience during the festive season. The total number of special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja is 1,126, comprising 182 newly announced services and 944 announced earlier.”

Some of the special routes include Mumbai–Banaras, Mumbai–Mau, Pune–Sanganer, and Pune–Amravati. The details are as follows:

LTT–Banaras: Bi-Weekly Specials (40 Services)

• 01051 – From 24 September to 27 November 2025, departs Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 12:15 every Wednesday and Thursday, arriving in Banaras at 01:10 on the third day (20 services).


• 01052 – Departs Banaras at 06:35 every Friday and Saturday from 26 September to 29 November 2025, arriving at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 16:40 the following day (20 services).
  Halts: Thane, Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Khandwa, Itarsi, Bhopal, Bina, Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Orai, Govindpuri Jn, Fatehpur, Subedarganj, Mirzapur, Varanasi.

• 01124 – Departs Mau at 07:35 on Sundays and Tuesdays from 28 September to 2 December 2025, arriving at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 22:20 the following day (20 services).
