Diwali festival will begin on October 18 (Saturday) with Dhanteras, the arrival of goddess Lakshmi. As Dhanteras is on Saturday, the market will remain closed on that day. Exchanges remain closed on Saturday and Sunday for weekly holidays.
The market will resume as usual on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The market will remain closed on October 21 (Tuesday) on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. The NSE and BSE will hold a special one-hour trading session for traders and investors on October 21, as they do every year, known as 'Muhurat Trading'.
The stock exchanges will be closed on October 22 (Wednesday) for Balipratipada, as per the exchanges' holiday list.
Muhurat trading session 2025 date and time
The Muhurat trading session will be held between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm, as stated in separate circulars from the stock exchanges. According to the exchange, the pre-opening session is scheduled from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm.
In 2024, the special Muhurat trading session was held from 6 pm to 7 pm.
The new session also ushers in Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu New Year that begins on Diwali. Traditionally, trading during the 'Muhurat' session is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth to investors.
Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) holidays
The Multi Commodity Exchange has also announced holidays on October 21 and October 22 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada. The commodity exchange will open for the evening session on October 22.
It will also conduct Muhurat trading on October 21, but the timings are yet to be confirmed.
