The Delhi High Court has protected actor Hrithik Roshan's personality rights, stating that his name, image, or identity cannot be used commercially without his permission. However, the court has currently refused to remove fan pages created to praise the actor.
Senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing on Hrithik Roshan's behalf, stated that certain apps and merchandise brands are using his images and identity without permission.
He explained that the actor has no connection to the clothing brand Ribbon Balloons.
The court stated that the matter will be heard in detail later, but until then, Roshan's personality rights should not be violated.
Showing the court the annexures to the suit, Sethi stated that Roshan's personality rights were being used on certain merchandise, such as bags.
Roshan's counsel alleged that the actor's images and voice was mimicked using artificial intelligence.
“They haven't used your name. This is a famous Hrithik Roshan song, used as a demo so people can learn it. This is not commercial merchandise. They are using your performance to teach. I'm not convinced at this stage,” the court added, stopping short of ordering a takedown of the pages.
