‘T-Series wanted me to do…’: Ed Sheeran recalls ‘Tum Hi Ho’ collab offer with Arijit Singh

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran recently collaborated with Bollywood sensation Arjit Singh for a music video titled Sapphire. The track, released in June 2025, incorporates Indian streets, markets, landmarks, and local culture, with Sheeran singing a Punjabi line in the track. The collaboration between the two won hearts and became a hit for its unique sound and the blend of their voices.

However, Ed Sheeran has now revealed that he was once approached to collaborate with Arijit on a version of the Aashiqui 2 (2013) song Tum Hi Ho.

In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Sheeran revealed he was once offered a collaboration and announced that he was impressed by the Bollywood ballad.

Sheeran confessed to being ‘spellbound’ by the song and confirmed that he has no idea if the film for which the song was written is still in production.

“There was one time I met with T-Series. And they wanted me to do a version of

Tum Hi Ho with Arijit for a movie. I don’t know whether it’s being made or whether I am dropping people in it. But this was a while ago. So, they sent me Tum Hi Ho. I obviously listened to it, was spellbound by it and just loved it and got in touch with Arijit and said, “Let’s be friends. Let me know when you are in London." He was going to be over in 6 months or something, so I just said ‘Keep in touch’," he said.

The Sapphire singer further said that they met when Arijit was in London for his tour. “Then he came to London, and we hung out. I went to play Perfect with him at the show. And afterwards, I was playing him some of the new record. I played him Sapphire. And he was instantly looking at his mates, being like, ‘This needs this. I’d love to do this. Let me help'. And he essentially took the track away, worked on it, and there it is.”

Interestingly, Sheeran also watched the 2013 Bollywood film Aashiqui 2

, which featured the song Tum Hi Ho, but found its tragic ending a little depressing. “But it was such a depressing ending,” he said.

Earlier this year, during his Mathematics Tour in India, Sheeran and his father made a trip to Arijit's hometown of Jiaganj Azimganj in West Bengal to finish recording Sapphire.

In July, he shared a heartfelt post alongside a special version of Sapphire on Instagram, calling it "One of my fav experiences."

“One of my fav experiences ever in my career was going to Jiaganj Azimganj with my dad to go and see @arijitsingh for the final jigsaw piece of Sapphire. It was a 24-hour trip, and felt like a pilgrimage of music. After a five-and-a-half-hour drive, when we landed, we arrived, Arijit took us on a boat to see the sights. talked, ate, drank coffee. Then once we were in the studio, he taught me how to sing in Punjabi, and a bit of Sitar," he wrote.
