The 70th Filmfare Awards lit up Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 11, celebrating the best of Hindi cinema at the glittering EKA Arena, Kankaria Lake. The grand evening, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, and Maniesh Paul, was a blend of glamour, emotion, and spectacular performances by Shah Rukh himself, Kriti Sanon, Kajol, and several others.
The night belonged to Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, which created history by bagging 13 awards, including the coveted Best Film and Best Director trophies,
equalling the all-time record set by Gully Boy. The film also swept honours for screenplay, dialogue, music, and supporting performances, cementing its dominance.
In a rare moment, Abhishek Bachchan (I Want To Talk) and Kartik Aaryan (Chandu Champion) shared the Best Actor (Male) award, while Alia Bhatt took home Best Actress (Female) for her powerful act in Jigra.
Among critics’ choices, Rajkummar Rao (Srikanth) and Pratibha Rannta (Laapataa Ladies) were recognised for their performances, and Shoojit Sircar’s I Want To Talk won the Critics’ Best Film.
Veteran icon Zeenat Aman received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while celebrated filmmaker Shyam Benegal was honoured posthumously for his legendary contribution to Indian cinema.
