Guo studying computer science and human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University in the US but dropped out just one year before completing her degree. In 2016, she co-founded Scale AI where she took charge of operations and product design but eventually leaving the company over difference of opinion on how the startup should be run. Guo was born to Chinese immigrant parents in the San Francisco Bay Area in the US. Dropping out of college proved to be an especially challenging as a daughter of immigrant parents. However, Guo told CNBC that joining the Thiel Fellowship by entrepreneur-investor Peter Thiel inspired her to pursue entrepreneurship. She worked at Quora and Snapchat before starting Scale AI.
