Earlier on June 16, 2025, the company had announced the commencement of passenger vehicle engine production at the same facility, with a separate intimation promised for full-scale vehicle assembly. With today’s announcement, HMIL confirmed that passenger vehicle manufacturing has officially begun.

The Talegaon plant was acquired from General Motors India under an asset purchase agreement signed in 2023. The acquisition was completed in January 2024. The site earlier had an annual production capacity of 1.3 lakh units. Hyundai has stated that it intends to make phased investments for upgrading infrastructure and manufacturing equipment at the Talegaon facility.
General Motors had ceased sales operations in India by the end of 2017, exiting the market as part of its global restructuring strategy. The automaker had previously attempted to sell the plant to Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors, but the deal was called off when Great Wall abandoned its India entry plans.
Shares of Hyundai Motor India Ltd ended at ₹2,537.05, down by ₹46.50, or 1.80%, on the BSE.
