What is the story about?
Shares of BSE Ltd. and Angel One Ltd. recovered from the lows of the day on Tuesday, October 7, after sources told CNBC-TV18 that market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has received a large number of representations with regards to the weekly options expiry.
Sources have said that brokers are seeking continuation of the weekly options expiry and both exchanges, the BSE and NSE are likely to seek continuation of the weekly options expiry.
SEBI is still collecting and assessing data on derivatives and the consultation process has not yet begun, sources said, adding that the regulator will assess the feedback in a detailed fashion and that there is no rush to either bring out the consultation paper or issue new rules.
What also needs to be kept in mind is the fact that SEBI's whole-time member Ananth Narayan, who oversees the derivatives segment, is set to retire on October 9.
On August 21, SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey had made a statement with regards to the tenure of equity derivatives. Speaking at the FICCI Annual Capital Market Conference, Pandey said that there is a need to increase the tenure of equity derivatives, adding that a consultation paper will soon be issued in this regard.
Shares of BSE are currently trading 1.6% higher at ₹2,253.5, while those of Angel One have also recovered from the lows of the day, currently trading 0.7% lower at ₹2,281.4.
