According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the mythological action drama crossed the ₹ 400 crore milestone domestically by its second weekend, becoming only the second film of the year to do so after Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava.
The Rishab Shetty directorial, which also stars him alongside Rukmini Vasanth and other actors, had an excellent second weekend with more than ₹ 100 crore gross at the Indian box office.
The prequel is the 16th Indian film and the 9th South Indian title to gross ₹ 500 crore domestically. Chhaava was the most recent film to achieve the feat, while Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule dominated the South Indian box office, as per Sacnilk.
Released on October 2, the film had a huge opening of over ₹ 60 crore on day 1 in all languages. On day 11 (Sunday), the film minted a net collection of ₹ 40 crore at the domestic box office, bringing the total to ₹ 438.98 crore. Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 had an overall Kannada occupancy of 79.33% on Sunday.
In a post on X, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, "#KantaraChapter1 packs an impressive total in its second weekend, with Saturday and Sunday showing fantastic growth. The film gets one more open weekend [17–19 Oct] before the #Diwali releases arrive [on 21 Oct], which should help it collect a solid overall total."

Kantara Chapter 1, which Rishab Shetty co-wrote with Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru, also stars Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles. It is a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, also directed by Rishab Shetty, who played the lead role in the original film.
Shetty won the Best Actor award for the film in 2024, and Kantara also won the award for Best Popular Film.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is expected to perform strongly during the Diwali holidays and has a chance to become the year's biggest Indian grosser, potentially surpassing Chhaava.
Recent performance has already made it a major hit, with its domestic earnings surpassing several other contenders, and it has already achieved several milestones.
The film's box office performance over the next few weeks, particularly during the crowded festive period, will be closely monitored to see if it can continue its momentum.
