In a media statement, NPCI said it has facilitated the positive clearance of 2.56 crore instruments through the central system. All cheques presented by banks have received confirmation—positive or negative—and banks have been advised to credit customers’ accounts for those confirmed positively.
According to NPCI, while the system is largely functioning as intended, “some teething issues continue to be observed in the systems and processes at the central system as well as at some banks.”
Efforts are ongoing to address these challenges and ensure that all cheques presented are cleared on the same day.
The payments body acknowledged that some customers experienced delays during the initial days of implementation and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. It said it remains committed to ensuring a smooth cheque-clearing experience as the transition to continuous clearing progresses.
The Continuous Clearing initiative aims to streamline and modernise cheque processing by enabling faster, more consistent settlement throughout the day—reducing turnaround times and improving efficiency across the banking ecosystem.
NPCI, established by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), operates several key payment systems including UPI, RuPay, IMPS, and NACH, and serves as the umbrella organisation for retail payments infrastructure in India.
