What is the story about?
Helmed by Ashwin Kumar, the animated mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha marks the first film in the Mahavtar Cinematic Universe (MCU). After a successful run in theatres, the film has made its debut on an OTT platform.
Based on the 'Vishnu Purana', 'Narasimha Purana', and 'Shrimad Bhagavata Purana', the mystical animation movie was released in theatres on July 25. Mahavatar Narsimha was released on Netflix on Friday, September 19, 2025. The film became available for streaming at 12:30 PM IST.
The movie is available to stream on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
Earlier, on Thursday, the OTT giant confirmed the release of the animated action-drama on its official Instagram handle. Sharing the poster, Netflix India wrote, "The roar of this lion can topple a kingdom. Watch 'Mahavatar Narsimha', out 19 September, 12:30 PM, on Netflix."
Today, the streaming platform shared, "Narsimha ki dahaad se puri duniya kaanp uthegi. Watch Mahavatar Narsimha, out now, in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil, on Netflix.
The film follows the story of the Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu as he comes to Earth to save the child devotee Prahlad from his tyrannical father, Hiranyakashipu.
The movie received little attention following its release. However, word of mouth and positive audience feedback led to an increase in attendance at theatres. It also broke many records at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film minted a total collection of ₹325.74 crore across the world. Mahavatar Narsimha made a gross business of ₹297.74 crore in India alone.
The film is backed by Kleem Productions and Hombale Films. It is the first instalment in the planned "Mahavatar Cinematic Universe," which is inspired by the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The upcoming films in the franchise are 'Mahavatar Parshuram' (2027), 'Mahavatar Raghunandan' (2029), 'Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh' (2031), 'Mahavatar Gokulananda' (2033), and 'Mahavatar Kalki' (2035–2037).
Sharing his vision for the upcoming films, Ashwin Kumar said, "We here at Kleem Productions, along with Hombale Films, are excited to bring the heritage of Bharat to the big screen in a never-before-experienced cinematic scale. The transcendental experience begins through the MAHAVATAR universe of Dasha Avatar... Now Bharat will Roar!" ANI reported.
