Apollo Hospitals launches Asia’s first dedicated cancer centre for women in New Delhi

(AHEL) on Monday unveiled Apollo Athenaa, Asia’s first dedicated cancer centre for women, located at Defence Colony, New Delhi. The centre was inaugurated by Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, in the presence of key dignitaries, including Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of AHEL, and other prominent leaders.

Recent data from GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates show that nearly 54% of cancers among Indian women are breast and cervical cancers, reflecting an urgent need for targeted care solutions. A new study from the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Cancer Registry Programme further corroborates this alarming trend.

Preetha Reddy described Apollo Athenaa as more than a hospital. It’s a movement aimed at transforming cancer care for women. The centre offers comprehensive services including preventive screenings, advanced diagnostics, surgical oncology, breast oncoplasty, fertility preservation, reconstructive care, onco-psychology, nutrition support, physiotherapy, and palliative care. These services are designed around women’s unique medical and emotional needs.

At the inauguration, Rekha Gupta highlighted the critical need for specialised cancer care for women, calling Apollo Athenaa a milestone in empowering women by ensuring dignity, privacy, and timely medical intervention. She emphasised the growing incidence of cancer among women in India, driven largely by breast and cervical cancers.

The centre offers a range of services, including preventive screenings, advanced diagnostics, surgical oncology, breast oncoplasty, fertility preservation, reconstructive care, onco-psychology, nutrition support, physiotherapy, and palliative care. These services are designed to address the unique medical and emotional needs of women, ensuring a holistic approach to cancer treatment.
