Cooper triumphed over Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), Peter Sarsgaard and Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), and Ashley Walters (Adolescence). His victory broke two long-standing records—Michael A. Goorjian’s 1994 win at age 23 in the same category, and Scott Jacoby’s achievement as the youngest male actor to win an Emmy at 16 in 1973.
"This is so surreal," Cooper said during his acceptance speech. "When I started drama classes, I never imagined I’d be standing here. Tonight proves that if you learn, focus, and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything. It says my name on the statue, but it really belongs to everyone who worked on the show."
Adolescence proved to be one of the biggest winners of the night. Stephen Graham secured two major awards, including Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, while Erin Doherty won Supporting Actress for the same series.
