The launch will take place during the second meeting of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) at the State Secretariat, where CM Stalin will also approve a 25-year Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
Chennai One is designed to allow commuters to use a single QR-based ticket across multiple transport systems in the city. The Chennai One app will be available for download on iOS and Android.
Transport modes included are:
- Buses (Metropolitan Transport Corporation – MTC)
- Metro rail
- Namma Yatri autorickshaws
- Taxis
- Suburban trains and MRTS will be integrated soon.
The app enables payments through UPI or payment cards, removing the need for long waits at ticket counters. It also provides real-time updates on bus and train schedules, helping commuters plan their journeys more efficiently.
Multi-language support in English, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada makes it accessible to a broad range of users.
CUMTA said the app will simplify public travel in Chennai by integrating ticketing, journey planning, and real-time tracking into a single platform. Commuters will no longer need multiple apps or smart cards, and waiting times will be significantly reduced.
Officials said it will reduce waiting times, improve commuter convenience, and encourage more people to use public transport.
