on Monday announced the mechanical completion of its Numaligarh–Siliguri Product Pipeline (NSPL) upgradation project, marking a key step in strengthening petroleum product transport infrastructure across India’s northeast.
The NSPL project, completed on October 12, 2025, enhances the capacity of the existing pipeline from 1.77 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 5.5 MMTPA, allowing the company to handle increased volumes of refined products from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam.
The pipeline connects the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam to Siliguri in West Bengal, serving as a vital evacuation route for petroleum products from the northeast to other parts of the country. With the upgradation, Oil India expects to significantly reduce transportation bottlenecks and improve supply efficiency.
The project also complements the ongoing Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP) undertaken by Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) - a group company of Oil India - which seeks to raise the refinery’s processing capacity from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA. Once completed, the expanded refinery is expected to play a larger role in meeting India’s rising fuel demand, especially in eastern and northeastern states.
Oil India said the mechanical completion marks one of the final stages before commissioning the upgraded pipeline. The achievement, it added, reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to India’s energy security and regional economic development.
“The completion of this critical milestone reaffirms OIL’s unwavering commitment to enhancing energy infrastructure in the Northeastern region and contributing to the nation’s growing demand for petroleum products,” the company said in a statement.
Oil India, a Maharatna central public sector enterprise, has been expanding its upstream and midstream operations as part of India’s broader push toward energy self-reliance.
Oil India shares ended 0.9% lower today at a price of ₹414.50 on the BSE.
