Asheesh Pandey on Tuesday assumed charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of state-run Union Bank of India, the lender said in a statement.
Pandey, a career banker with more than 27 years of experience, began his career at Corporation Bank in Mumbai and later worked in its investment and international banking division. He most recently served as executive director at Bank of Maharashtra for nearly four years, where he oversaw corporate credit, treasury, and the rollout of digital lending and automation initiatives.
Before that, Pandey was chief general manager and chief operating officer at Union Bank, where he led the integration of the amalgamated entity and pushed for digital solutions including WhatsApp banking, video KYC, doorstep banking, and analytics-based monitoring tools.
Over his career, he has managed diverse portfolios ranging from credit and treasury to foreign transactions, compliance, marketing and customer relations. He also served as chairman of The Maharashtra Executor & Trustee Co., a Bank of Maharashtra subsidiary, and held trustee roles in social development organisations linked to the bank.
Pandey is a mechanical engineer with a postgraduate degree in management, specialising in finance and marketing. He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers and has undertaken executive leadership training at IIM Bangalore and a directors’ development programme with Egon Zehnder and Harvard Business Publishing.
