What is the story about?
Get ready for a spooky Diwali with Ayushmann Khurrana's latest horror-comedy film, ‘Thamma’. The much-awaited trailer is here. And, it promises a thrilling ride filled with laughter, romance and supernatural twists.
With a star-studded cast, including Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the horror comedy is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year. Created by the makers of Stree, Munjya, Bhediya and Stree 2, the film is slated to release on October 21.
On Friday, the makers released the trailer for the horror-comedy, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who is known for Munjya. The film is the latest instalment in Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe.
In a post on X, the makers shared the trailer and said, “A forgotten legend from our folklore, #Thamma takes centre stage this Diwali. Maddock Horror Comedy Universe presents a bloody love story, produced by Dinesh Vijan & Amar Kaushik and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. In cinemas worldwide on 21st October.”
The two-minute-54-second trailer offers a mix of mystery, supernatural drama, romance and humour. The clip also incorporates the popular social media track ‘Dame Un Grrr’ by Fantomel and Kate Linn, along with several meme-worthy moments.
It begins with a voice saying, “Tum betaal ho aur tumhe prithvi aur insaanon ki raksha ke liye banaya hai (You are a vampire, and you have been created to protect the Earth and humankind).”
We then get a glimpse of Ayushmann Khurrana's character, Alok, as an ordinary man who turns into a vampire. With a missing heartbeat and fangs, he can be heard saying, “Ab main kya karoonga? Meri life, mere ambition sab khatam. Rajma chawal kaise khaoonga? [How will I eat Rajma Chawal now? My life and ambitions are over.]”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the antagonist, Yakshasan, a Betaal.
Rashmika Mandanna plays Ayushmann’s love interest in the film.
The trailer also features a special cameo by Nora Fatehi and Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya. Additionally, Paresh Rawal, who plays Ayushmann Khurrana's father in the film, stole our hearts with his impeccable comedic timing.
Thamma is set to be released in cinemas on October 21, during the Diwali festival. Thamma is written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara. It is produced by Maddock Films' Dinesh Vijan and Stree director Amar Kaushik.
