The Bombay High Court has ordered actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, to deposit ₹ 60 crore as a condition to be allowed to travel to Los Angeles and other international destinations.
According to a report in Live Law, the HC ruling came while hearing a plea seeking to quash a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them in relation to a ₹60 crore fraud case.
A division bench of the High Court, consisting of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, heard the couple's plea on their foreign travel.
The petition included a proposed itinerary for international trips from October 2 to October 29 and subsequently from December 20 to January 6, 2026.
The court observed that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW)'s Lookout Circular (LOC) against the couple remains in effect. As a result, they are unable to go overseas without authorisation from the court or the investigative agency.
The LOC was issued in connection with a ₹ 60 crore fraud case filed by a businessman, Deepak Kothari, who alleged that between 2015 and 2023, he was induced by the couple to invest in their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
During the hearing,Shetty 's counsel told the court that the planned ‘leisure family trip’ was no longer possible, but Shilpa has to travel to Los Angeles for a YouTube event between October 21 and October 24.
However, the complainant's counsel stated, "As per my knowledge, the applicants (Kundra & Shetty) are foreign nationals and thus there is an apprehension (of not returning to India)."
During the hearing, the judges asked for communication details between the counsel's client and the organisers of a YouTube event, but the counsel stated the client had received calls about it. The Chief Justice then instructed the counsel to provide the phone numbers for verification.
CJ Chandrashekhar added that the pair was not detained in the case because they cooperated with the investigation agency. "You deposit the entire amount in this court and we will consider the request then, but subject to their arguments," CJ added.
After hearing both parties, the court adjourned the matter to October 14.
Earlier, the actor faced questioning for about four and a half hours by the EOW in the matter. The LOC was issued against them in September over allegations of the cheating case that was filed against Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and another person in August.
