Announcing the trip, the Canadian Ministry of External Affairs said it would aim to advance cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
In an official statement, the Canadian government said, “Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced she will travel to India, Singapore and China from October 12 to October 17 to advance bilateral relations and cooperation with these countries as part of Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy."

This visit marks her first official trip to India since assuming the role earlier this year. It comes after a period of strained relations and amid ongoing efforts to reset bilateral ties between the two nations.
During her visit to the country, she will meetExternal Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in Delhi, “as both countries move toward establishing a framework for strategic cooperation on issues such as trade diversification, energy transformation and security.”
She will also travel to Mumbai to engage with Canadian and Indian firms working to support investment, job creation and economic opportunity across both countries.
“For Canada to be strong at home, we need strong, stable partnerships abroad. I am building bridges and increasing cooperation with India, Singapore and China. In line with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, I will be working to advance efforts to position Canada as a trusted, reliable partner of choice for Indo-Pacific countries and their economies,” she added.
Earlier, on September 29, Dr Jaishankar met Anand on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Calling it a ‘good meeting’, he said, “Look forward to welcoming” FM in India.

The visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral meeting with Canadian counterpart Mark Carney in June on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.
“This was the first in-person interaction between the two leaders since Prime Minister Carney assumed office following Canada’s recent general elections. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to hold frank and forward-looking discussions on the state of India-Canada relations and the way ahead,” he said.
