What is the story about?
Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's horror-comedy film Thamma has made a remarkable debut at the box office.
Released on October 21, during the Diwali festivities, the film earned approximately ₹24.87 crore on its opening day, according to the latest update from Sacnilk. This marks the highest day 1 collection for Ayushmann, surpassing his previous highest opener, Dream Girl 2, which earned ₹10.69 crore.
Thamma has also entered the top 5 openings of 2025.
Thamma had an overall 34.5% Hindi Occupancy on the first day. The morning show witnessed a relatively low occupancy of 15.76%.
Afternoon shows picked up momentum with 39.81% of seats filled, while evening shows saw the highest attendance at 42.91%. Night shows maintained steady numbers, registering 39.5% occupancy.
Despite a decent start, Thamma's opening fell short compared to previous hits in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Last year, Stree 2 opened with ₹35 crore, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, had opened at ₹32 crore during the last Diwali.
Speaking to ANI, Ayushmann said, "My character is neither 'Stree' nor 'Bhediya'. He is not even Munjya. He is 'Thamma' or 'Betaal'. This is completely different. The film will take the legacy of Maddock's Horror Comedy Universe forward. It is also a perfect family entertainer. The horror has been presented in such a way that the kids can also digest it easily."
Thamma was released alongside Milap Zaveri's romantic drama film "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat," starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles. The film earned only ₹8.50 crore on Day 1.
Helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is the fifth instalment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
The story of Thamma centres on a journalist who one day meets a mysterious woman, and this encounter supernaturally changes his life. After meeting her, he transforms into a vampiric creature called Betal. With his supernatural power, he must save humanity from the bloodlust of an ancient evil.
