PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Alec Bohm tripled to deep center field in the 10th inning Friday night, driving in two runs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6.
Bohm hit a 2-2 pitch from St. Louis reliever Luis Gastelum (3-3) that eluded Jose Fermin in center. Automatic runner Bryce Harper and Edmundo Sosa, running for Luis Arraez, scored on the play as the Phillies extended their winning streak to seven games.
Gastelum had cruised through
the ninth inning, but gave up consecutive hits to Arraez and Bohm in the 10th.
It was Bohm’s third hit of the game. Arraez and Brandon Marsh also had three hits for the Phillies.
The Cardinals had scored their extra runner in the top half of the inning on Fermin’s RBI single off Alex McFarlane (2-1).
The Cardinals managed six hits off Phillies starter Jesus Luzardo, two of them homers.
St. Louis’ Jordan Walker came to the plate under a wave of booing from Phillies fans. They recall him as the guy who came back to steal a Home Run Derby title from Philly's Kyle Schwarber at Citizens Bank Park in July.
This time, Walker drove one into the seats in right field, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.
St. Louis had jumped in front in the first on a two-run homer by Joshua Baez. Consecutive RBI doubles by Marsh and J.T. Realmuto lifted the Phillies into a 2-all tie in the second.
Realmuto slapped a liner to left off reliever Gordon Graceffo’s first delivery in the sixth, scoring Bohm and tying the game at 4.
Justin Crawford followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Marsh and put the Phillies ahead 5-4.
The Cardinals got the run back in the eighth on Bryan Torres' bloop RBI single for a 5-all tie.
St. Louis starter Hunter Dobbins left the game after one pitch in the fifth inning due to “right forearm tightness.” Earlier in the day, the Cardinals announced starter Andre Pallante had been placed on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation.
The Cardinals did not announce a starter for Saturday's game. The Phillies will go with RHP Andrew Painter (2-8, 6.43 ERA).
