FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — BYU running back LJ Martin left early from the No. 10 Cougars' 17-10 win at TCU on Saturday night after suffering an apparent lower leg injury.
Martin, who came in averaging 109.3 yards rushing per game, had only two carries for 16 yards. Those were on consecutive carries, for 11 yards and then 5, with about five minutes left in the first quarter. He had caught one of three passes thrown his way for no gain before that, but
that was it for him.
Coach Kalani Sitake didn’t provide much of an update afterward on Martin or injured starting linebacker Isaiah Glasker, and didn't elaborate on their specific injuries.
Glasker was hurt on Faletau Satuala's 59-yard interception midway through the second quarter that set up the first of quarterback Bear Bachmeier's two touchdown runs.
“The good thing is that he was standing and moving, so we’ll have to evaluate that. Same thing with LJ,” Sitake said. “So it wasn’t like those guys were on crutches or anything like that. So I’m encouraged with that, but you never know until you get a look at it and get to evaluate it with MRIs and things like that.”
Martin last season was the AP Big 12 offensive player of the year, when he was the league's leading rusher with 1,305 yards and also had 12 touchdowns.
