The Central Board of Secondary Education, popularly known by its abbreviation 'CBSE' is one of the most common and popular education boards of India. It
is a national-level board of education in India for public and private schools that is controlled by the Government of India. But did you know that it was not the first education board of India? Yes, the first education board of India was not even close to what is today known as CBSE. While CBSE was formed in 1952, the first education board was established in 1921. The first education board to be set up in India was the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education, which was set up in 1921. It was under the jurisdiction of Rajasthan, Central India and Gwalior. Following this, the government of India established a joint Board, the Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1929. This included Ajmer, Merwara, Central India, and Gwalior. Later it was confined to Ajmer, Bhopal and Vindhya Pradesh. A few years later, in 1952, this became the Central Board of Secondary Education.
